  1. Replacing Paper

    1. On the screen, the printer will display the approximate number of pages left if it is low. To add paper, push in the gray button on the top of the front door and open the door.
    2. Put unwrapped reams of paper into the tray once it has lowered. If you have unwrapped too much paper, place the excess on the table next to the printer.
    3. Make sure that the new paper lines up properly in the tray. If the paper is crooked or is not pushed in enough, the paper can jam when printing.
    4. Close the door.

  3. Replacing Toner opentop.png

    1. If your documents turn out light, this means that the toner is running out.
    2. On the printer, open the section with the screen and the buttons on it.
    3. Inside will be the toner. Pull out the old toner by the handle.
    4. On the new toner, be sure to remove all packaging. Also, there will be a tab that needs to be broken off. Once that tab is broken, the ribbon attached can be pulled out.
    5. Put the new toner into the printer in the same way the old one was pulled out. Close this section so that you can see the screen. If you did not remove the packaging properly, you will see an error message on the screen.
    6. Test the new toner by making a word processor document with random characters on it and printing or by going on the printer menu, selecting “DIAGNOSTICS”, then “PAPER PATH TEST”, and finally “PRINT TEST PAGE”.
    7. If no new toner is available, then remove the old toner and rock it from side to side. Put the toner back in. This will allow you to print a few more pages. This is not a lasting solution.
  4. Paper Jam

    1. Every so often paper will jam in the printer. On the screen, it will usually say where the paper has jammed according to the numbers on the trays.
    2. After the paper has been removed, it is a good idea to check to see if the path has been cleared. tab.png
    3. This can be accomplished by making a word processor document with random characters on it and printing or by going on the printer menu, selecting “DIAGNOSTICS”, then “PAPER PATH TEST”, and finally “PRINT TEST PAGE”.
    4. Tray 1 Jams
      1. Open the top section like when you change the toner with the door to tray 1.
      2. Remove the toner.
      3. Where the toner was placed, there will be a green tab. Flip this up.
      4. On the piece labeled with a 4, pull it out. You will need to squeeze the tab with grips on the side of it.
      5. Flip down the piece labeled 5.
      6. Any paper that is jammed should be able to be pulled free. Do so now. Put the mangled paper in recycling.

      1. Press the orange “Stop” button on the printer.
      2. Select “CANCEL CURRENT JOB” on the next menu and press the green check button.

      2. Switch the printer off, wait ten seconds, then switch the printer back on.
    3. The printer does not print what I send to it.

      2. Most printers are labeled by the room that they are in. The printer that you have selected can be found by going to File > Print. There will be a drop-down menu in which you can select the correct printer.
      3. It may be that the file you have is too large for the memory that the printer does have. Based on what you are doing with your file, please check with START (Smith-Curtis 109) to get a staff member to help you get your file printed.
